Dear franciskerst! I wish you a happy, calm, super, enjoyable birthday! Since I have not been able to finish what you - well - want me to finish, here's a promise that sometime in the future...
I hope it will not take as long for us to meet this time - I'm looking forward to seeing you again :)
Now, why on earth am I posting on this, the busiest day of the year?
Because we're absolutely, totally snowed in. I have presents to deliver, the kids have a couple of presents to buy (late as usual), the churchyards to visit, etc..., and I can't even get my car out of the garage. Hopefully the road people will manage to plow the streets in our neighbourhood soon.
And we celebrate tonight... so - I'm off running around...
I wish you all a happy celebration this midwinter!!! Eat, drink, relax and celebrate the light returning!
Today is Santa Lucia Day, a celebration with long traditions in the North. Before the change of calendar it was near the winter solstice - and you can imagine all the horrors the longest night contained in earlier times.
Here's a recipe for Lucia buns - lussekatter, which originally was made for another day earlier in December, but which has melted together with the Lucia traditions.
I use tumeric/turmeric instead of saffron, (makes them a tad more spicy, but still the correct yellow colour) and dried/powder yest in the flour instead of the wet yest. Plus, I add a tsp of cardamom
On the one hand - this is what makes it so challenging and intriguing to write fanfic, we can choose among so many words that we can create numerous nuances in meaning.
On the other hand - it sometimes makes it difficult, especially for an EFL as myself, to fully understand what I'm reading, or writing for that matter. And I suspect my vocabulary is above average - after all I work with the English language every day. And if I sometimes struggle, what with those who use it only sporadically? I'm impressed with what some people manage to write.
All in all - great fun and great possibilities, eh?
I'm still up, it's past midnight - so - let me be the first to wish you a Happy Birthday! I hope your day will be of the best! Thank you for countless talks and all the good memories we have created, and thank you for being such a good friend :)
To dinahmt - my dear friend. I hope your day has been peaceful and happy! Thank you for all the great times we've had together so far, I wish with all my heart that there will be many more.
